Updated:  November, 2023

Effective January 1, 2024, the Hybrid Block Policy will be applied to all students studying with Kati Eichelberger Auchinleck.

Lessons are offered in alternating blocks from September to June

Scheduled Block:  this block consists of a two week period with TWO lessons that have been scheduled in advance.  Lessons during the Scheduled Block will be at a consistent day and time throughout the entire year.

(There is an extended Scheduled Block immediately preceding the Spring Showcase.)

Virtual Block:  this block consists of a two week period with ONE lesson that must be scheduled by the student through the My Music Staff calendar.  Times are completely flexible and may be adjusted as needed!

This two week block contains TWO scheduled in-person (if applicable) lessons with a consistent day and time throughout the Academic Term for every Scheduled Block.   These lessons are scheduled through teacher/family collaboration during the summer preceding the Studio Year.  If a student has a conflict with one of their Scheduled Block lesson times, the lesson may be shifted into any open Virtual/FLEX lesson throughout the year.

NOTE:  Only one lesson per week/per student may be booked (regardless of BLOCK type).

ONE lesson may be booked during each Virtual Block.  At the beginning of the year, one lesson credit will be provided for each Virtual Block on the Studio Calendar.  Students are responsible for registering for their preferred Virtual Block lesson time through the My Music Staff Student Portal.

Lesson credits can NOT be carried over to a new term though they may be shared amongst immediate family members for use in the current term.  Lesson credits must be used by the end of the last Virtual Block in June as indicated on the Studio Calendar for Kati Eichelberger Auchinleck.

Unused lesson credits are non-refundable and expire on the last day of the last Virtual Block in June of the current Studio Year.

NOTE:  Only one lesson per week/per student may be booked (regardless of BLOCK type).

Regardless of the BLOCK type of the originally scheduled or booked lesson, ALL rescheduled lessons must be RESCHEDULED BY THE STUDENT as a virtual/FLEX lesson.  Though there may be some virtual/FLEX lessons available during a Scheduled Block, there is no guarantee of an available time within the same week.  Rescheduled lessons may be booked during any open virtual/FLEX lesson on the My Music Staff calendar within any block type.

***All cancellations must be made through the online Student Portal***

Lessons may be cancelled by the student six (6) hours before the scheduled lesson with no charge for the lesson. If the lesson is cancelled less than six hours before the scheduled lesson, the full lesson fee will be charged. Kindly give as much notice as possible to facilitate rescheduling for other students.

*If the teacher arrives at the student's home and the student is not available for the lesson, the full amount of the lesson will be charged.

Learning in Harmony reserves the right to shift to virtual lesson delivery at any time during the studio year.  Depending on the determining factor, this may be for one lesson day, a series of indicated lesson days, or a temporary full-time shift to virtual lessons.

Virtual/FLEX lesson times are subject to availability.  There is no guarantee of consistent times from week to week.

Virtual lessons will be implemented in ALL cases of inclement weather as determined by the OSTA (Ottawa School Transportation Authority).  If the OSTA cancels school buses, lessons will AUTOMATICALLY be shifted to a virtual format.  This process ensures the safety of our teachers during inclement weather while ensuring that students do not miss a lesson.  If the virtual lesson is declined by the student, a Student RUBATO lesson will be applied.

Punctuality is very important. However, especially for in-person lessons, there can be extenuating circumstances including traffic, construction, and unexpected inclement weather.  Due to these (and other) variables, lessons may begin within a 15 minute window after the given lesson start time. Lessons will still be given for the full lesson period assigned whenever possible, though we do reserve the right to cancel lessons as necessary.

If the teacher expects to be more than 15 minutes late for the lesson, an email notification will be sent.

In the rare case of cancellation due to severe weather, teacher illness, or family emergency, we will strive to notify you as early as possible.

Every student stops taking lessons at some point in their music career whether it is 1 year, 5 years, or 20 years into music lessons. Ideally, this decision is made thoughtfully with plenty of discussion between the teacher, parent, and student so that lessons can end on a positive note.

2 weeks notice in writing (via email) is required prior to discontinuing lessons.
